Job Purpose:
The Section Head-Marine Engineering is responsible for reviewing the technical specifications for all ADSB construction, repair and refit projects (as required) and tracking the implementation of the designs throughout the execution stages in order to ensure the that the projects are aligned to the marine and electrical engineering requirements, with regards to the applicable engineering standards as well as ADSB and industry standards
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:
Mechanical Engineering Activity Management:
Manages the mechanical engineering activities, providing guidance, encouraging teamwork, facilitating related professional work processes, and resolving any crucial issues in order to achieve targets and standards while satisfying internal and external customer needs
Technical Designs and Specifications:
Manages the development of mechanical engineering aspects (including electrical engineering aspects) of technical specifications and liaise with other design disciplines in order to ensure the production of homogeneous designs and specifications that are aligned with project requirements and ADSB standards.
Technical Support:
Provides technical support for bid and proposal activities and liaise with potential customers, vendors, Classification Societies and ADSB departments as and when required in order to support in business development activities.
Prepares, reviews and agrees on all drawings and documentations prior to issuing drawings for execution (including sub-contracted design works and drawings).
Work Progress:
Performs periodic reviews of design/production engineering documentation for ships that are under construction, refit and repair (including sub-contracted work) as required, in order to track engineering work progress against contract obligations pertaining to marine and electrical design aspects and report contract deviations to the Head of Engineering for prompt action.
Resource Planning:
Develop resource plans for the technical staff and identify manning needs in order to ensure that the adequate levels of manpower are available to meet medium-term marine engineering activities and that section resources are effectively utilised on the different activities (based on priority projects, skill/experience of resources etc.).
Material Requirements:
Ensures that material requirements (bills of material) are developed in an accurate and timely manner in line with technical specification and standards. Reviews technical offers from a technical perspective, and authorise/approve technical purchase requisitions in order to ensure the timely and accurate availability of project material requirements, in line with technical specifications and standards.
Budgeting and Control:
Contribute to the preparation of the annual section budget and monitor the financial performance of the section versus budgets (e.g. project budgets, material budgets etc.) so that areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified and rectified promptly and potential financial performance improvement opportunities are capitalised upon.
Documentation:
Lead the maintenance of accurate design data and engineering drawings in order to ensure availability for any future reference, in line with applicable procedures.
