DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General

Knowledge

Plans, coordinates and provides for optimum patient care on the unit.
Maintains the Standards of Nursing Care as established.
Assures utilization of the nursing process based on research and evidence-based outcomes.

Evaluates the capabilities of other professionals prior to delegating duties.
Exercises independent judgments in making patient assignments and adjusts these assignments based on the competencies of the care-giver, patient acuity, continuity of care and environmental factors.
Involve in shaping research-based nursing practice to provide safe and quality care to promote better patient outcome.
Manages census including decisions on when to give off for the staff, who should be given and when additional staffing is needed.
Makes recommendations and feedback for the new materials or machine for evaluation.
Keeps a trend of current concepts and research in relation to general practice of nursing, specialty area and management.
Involve in data collection and decision-making in patient care delivery.
To maintain own personal and professional development in accordance with SFHP-D guidelines.
Consult and coordinate with other health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.

Skills
Provides clinical supervision of patient care and job performance supervision of all employees on an assigned shift.
Identifies the number and level of personnel needed to provide patient care and adjusts staffing and assignments appropriately.
Provides nursing care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based outcomes to meet patient care needs.
Supervises nurses and caregivers on their assigned shifts.
Provides direction and leadership in critical emergency situations ensuring patient safety is maintained.
Follow preceptors / preceptee as needed, provides training and reviews staff competencies.

Participating in identifying and providing learning experiences for the staff as documented in daily staff assignments and annual performance evaluation goals.
Participates in Patient Safety and Family Education Program.
To manage resources economically and efficiently

Attitude
Adheres to Security Forces Hospital Dammam values and nursing code of ethics.

Facilitates and encourages staff nurse participation in shared governance councils by assuring appropriate availability and provides staff nurse support to leave unit for on-duty meetings.
Follow the ‘Chain of Command” guidelines when indicated.
Give fair feedback during staff evaluation.
Attends monthly hospital-wide Management Staff meeting, as well as required department meetings.
Attend unit staff meetings regularly.
Performs other duties as assigned.
To maintain confidentiality at all times in all matters pertaining to patient.
To maintain effective communication with other wards and departments.
Maintaining a professional relationship within the healthcare team.
Demonstrates a positive attitude and willingness to facilitate unit function, productivity, and efficiency.
Critical Units/Special Unit (ICU, CCU, PICU, NICU, ER/HDU, DSU,OR, L&D;)
To be conversant with and adheres to SFHP-D critical/emergency unit-based policies and procedures.
To coordinate and manage the delivery of multidisciplinary care within the critical/emergency units.
To coordinate the transfer of critically ill/emergency patients when necessary.

EDUCATION/ LICENSURE:

BSC or Master degree in Nursing with minimum of good grading.
Maintains valid registration in country of origin.
Must have valid SCFHS license.
