Job purpose :
Primary responsibility includes planning, organizing and directing the overall operation of the Laboratory Department.
Activities included are performance of chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic tests performed in the laboratory to obtain data for use in diagnosis of diseases.
Ensure that services are of the best quality
The employment of competent qualified personnel.
Have the option to delegate some of your responsibilities, you remain ultimately responsible and must ensure that all the duties are properly performed and applicable CBAHI, CAP and JCI regulations are met.
Ensure that your laboratory develops and uses a quality system approach to laboratory testing that provides accurate and reliable patient test results.
Duties and responsibilities:

As laboratory director, you must ensure that: Testing systems in the laboratory provide quality services in all aspects of test performance, i.e., the preanalytic, analytic, and post analytic phases of testing and are appropriate for your patient population.
Physical and environmental conditions of the laboratory are adequate and appropriate for the testing performed.
The environment for employees is safe from physical, chemical, and biological hazards and safety and biohazard requirements are followed.
A general supervisor (high complexity testing) is available to provide day-to-day supervision of all testing personnel and reporting of test results as well as provide on-site supervision for specific minimally qualified testing personnel when they are performing high complexity testing.
Sufficient numbers of appropriately educated, experienced, and/or trained personnel who provide appropriate consultation, properly supervise, and accurately perform tests and report test results in accordance with the written duties and responsibilities specified by you, are employed by the laboratory.
New test procedures are reviewed, included in the procedure manual and followed by personnel  Each employee’s responsibilities and duties are specified in writing.
Professional Requirements:
Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
Complete annual education requirements.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Report to work on time and as scheduled.
Wear identification while on duty.
Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, international and local regulations.
Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.  Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the organization.
Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
Attend regular staff meetings and in-services.
Ensure that the laboratory is customer focused
Qualifications:

Qualifications include:
Bachelor of Medicine
Master degree in clinical pathology
PHD
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire.
Previous experience in the management of clinical laboratory.
Must have experience with regulatory and accreditation of laboratory operations, preferably CAP, JCI, and CBAHI.
