Job Description and Requirements
Education and Licensure
1. Graduate from a recognized medical school (M.B.B.S.).
2. Postgraduate degree Fellowship certification i.e. Saudi Board, Arab Board, American Board or Canadian or its equivalent internationally recognized high medical qualifications.
3. Current valid license as consultant to practice his specialty in his country of origin and from Saudi Council for Healthcare Services.
4. Current valid certification of Basic Life Support or obtaining that within 6 months of commencement of employment.
Professional Experience
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the practice of his specialty after obtaining his High Medical Degree.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills
1. Must be fluent in spoken and written English and Arabic.
2. Must be emotionally stable and in good physical health.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Participate in the on-call Rota of the department of Internal Medicine for patient care and admissions, and participate in the daily morning reports.
• Review and perform histories, physical examination, planning the investigations, treatment and disposal of patients. Procedures include; cavity aspirations, biopsies, endoscopies, electrocardiographic interpretations and others within the capabilities of an above-average internist and assigned privileges.
• Participate in the Quality Assurance, Infection Control, and professional education of interested parties, Postgraduate activities and any other assignments related to excellent patient care education. This includes Grand Rounds. Bedside Teaching Sessions, Clinical Lectures, Demonstrations, Tutorials, Resident Seminars, Journal Club, Morbidity and Mortality Conferences, X-ray and Clinico-Pathological Conferences.
• Conduct regular ward rounds on his own and as a team with other consultants as determined by the Head of Infection Control.
• Offer advice on problems related to Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine and accepts referrals from other physicians regarding patients with Infectious Diseases, Tropical Medicine problems during emergencies.
• Perform investigation and management of Infectious Disease patient, even if under the primary care of other attending physicians (under the care of or referred to this institution) but with prior permission and willingness of the primary physician concerned using subspecialty related invasive and non-invasive procedures if within the capabilities of institutional resources.
• Provide collaborative assistance in referral of above type of patients to appropriate facilities for further management if resources of this institution are not adequate.
• Participate in any Public Health Program agreed between the Hospital and the Ministry of Interior.
• Ensure expertise in epidemiology, Infection Control Programs, Management of Food Poisoning outbreaks, other hospital and community related programs and some laboratory experience in these related fields.
• Provide assessment and referral of appropriate patients under his/her medical care to other medical facilities by recognized procedures.
• Conduct regular ward rounds on his own or as a team with other consultants as determined by the Chief of Internal Medicine.
• Comply with the standards laid down by the Approved International Accreditation Standards.
• Identifies any occurrence not consistent with the operation of the Hospital or standard of service for patients, employees or visitors and situations that put patients, staff or visitors at risk for injury or other harm through the chain of command.
• Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his /her knowledge, skills and abilities.
