• Ensure that all RSAF training programmes are fully defined to ensure that RSAF requirements are achieved in accordance with HQRSAF training policies and procedures, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) curriculum’s, and/or other codes and standards approved by the RSAF.
• Provide effective advice on all matters relating to fire service and fire training in accordance with HQRSAF directives.
• Ensure all training design, examination and standards are kept updated.
• Think strategically and communicate a training strategy/vision effectively, leading towards completion of targets and objectives.
• Prepare and present instructional material to simulate emergency conditions and to maintain the interest of fire fighters in the subject being taught.
• Develop course synopsis, course training standards and plan of instruction.
• Thorough knowledge and use of fighting tools and equipment plus the ability to demonstrate their use.
Skills & Qualifications
• Experience as a serving Fire Officer in a Civil or Military airport/airfield fire service. Latter years supervising fire protection, prevention and training programs.
• Hold Qualifications as a Fire Officer and Fire Training Officer (NFPA 1021 Fire Officer I & II, NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor or equivalent), certified by an approved and reputable fire service organisation.
• Familiar with the National Fire Protection Association (IFSTA) Codes and Standards and International Fire Service Training Associated (IFSTA) curriculums or equivalent.
• A sound knowledge of aircraft fire training process, strategies and tactics preferably gained from airfield experience.
• A sound knowledge of aircraft categorisation policies with regards to fire and rescue requirements, response times, fire vehicles, equipment, training and fire fighting media in accordance with ICAO, NFPA or equivalent EU requirements.
• Ability to plan, organise, supervise and coordinate fire training programs using classroom lectures, chalk talks and demonstrations on fire projection and fire fighting media in accordance with ICAO, NFPA or equivalent EU requirements.
• Can implement an assessment strategy for course training programmes in accordance with NFPA or equivalent.
• Conduct analysis of examination and standards to fit course curriculums, making subsequent recommendations as required.
• Can determine the need for new fire training material; evaluate new teaching techniques, methods and procedures.
• The job requires the individual to work at staff level within the RSAF fire protection programme. Therefore, a previous background and experience in a military environment is desirable (however not essential).
• First-hand experience and good all-around awareness and knowledge of fire service operations and training structures.
• Have the ability to communicate effectively with senior management. Must have an excellent writing capability for reports and briefings.
• Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
• Must be able to work in a multi-functional environment across the RSAF to provide quality advice and training programmes.
