The Customs Clearance Officer ensures smooth and efficient import and export of goods by preparing and processing customs documentation, liaising with government authorities, and ensuring compliance with all customs regulations and company policies. The role is critical in minimizing clearance delays and avoiding penalties while supporting supply chain efficiency.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepare and submit all necessary import/export documents (bills of lading, invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, etc.).
Ensure accuracy and compliance of all documentation with customs laws and trade regulations.
Maintain updated knowledge of local, regional, and international customs rules.
Liaise with customs officials to facilitate prompt clearance of shipments.
Verify tariff classifications, duty rates, and tax applicability.
Resolve customs queries, disputes, or inspection issues.
Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and transport companies.
Communicate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely delivery.
Provide regular updates to management and clients regarding shipment status.
Maintain detailed records of all import/export activities.
Prepare periodic reports on clearance times, costs, and compliance issues.
Ensure proper archiving of customs documentation for audit purposes.
