Reporting to the Senior Manager Workforce Catering, the Manager for Workforce Catering role assists in the functional area relationships, and manages and supports the successful delivery of the Workforce Catering Programme specifically related to planning and event time operations at Expo 2020. The role requires effectively contributing to the service planning for the Workforce Catering both Blue Collar and White Collar Back and also the School Children’s Meals program.
This position will primarily manage the integrated planning with other functional areas, including the development of workforce catering operational plans, evaluating contractor timeline deliverables and licensing requirements as required by Dubai Municipality, CID, Dubai South. This will ensure any opportunities for efficiencies across the different client groups are included within Workforce Catering are realized and implemented during both the planning phase and during the event. The role will include ensuring catering contractors readiness specifically related to logistics, fit-out and food safety management. Efficiencies will be found through working with internal Expo Functions to maximize procedures and controls, including the organisation, review and approval of contractor deliverables to ensure contractor readiness and alignment to Expo 2020 operational requirements.
The main responsibilities of the role include:
- Development of operational plans, assist in contractor tender evaluations, provide input to menu design, insight on kitchen operations, safe handling procedures, HACCP and other contractor food safety protocols and supply chain management;
- Operational planning capability, exhibited by high-level involvement in work that requires representing an operational perspective within a cross functional environment and to work with a contracted service provider to ultimately reach a solution that is fit for purpose, meets KPI’s and is in budget;
- Strong contract management ability, including skills F&B;management operations that extend into monitoring KPI’s and resolving performance gaps, implementing penalties and/or incentive awards and managing contract scope variations;
- Middle management and cross functional communication skills, developed and honed through experiences in managing diverse teams, managing both up and down to ensure that necessary team members are informed;
- Delivering information in various ways, effective at presentations, written briefs and in informal settings with interactions ranging from senior executives, government stakeholders, sponsor partners and other influential entities;
- Emphasis on day to day management, delivery of Service Level Agreements, contractor KPIs and issue resolution and reporting responsibilities;
- People development and on-boarding, support the Workforce Catering Senior Manager in recruiting and maintaining teams, building capability in people, training and coaching;
- Working to deliver a F&B;program within the parameters of local legislation, ensuring a safe operation across all delivery modes and integrating with key parties to approve plans and actively monitor operations.

6+ years’ experience with large scale events with specific knowledge of workforce catering operations and the management of contractor timeline deliverables and operational plans, as well as:
- A Bachelors degree within a relevant field;
- Experience in implementing and managing a large highly faceted workforce catering operation, such as in an international mega event, KPI development, monitoring and management specifically related to large scale event catering contractors;
- Highly motivated and hardworking; willing to work as needed including shift work which may include overnight, ability to multi task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
- Confidentiality and discretion a must along with established experience and creativity in problem solving and ability to manage and motivate a team;
- Experience with managing contracts for the delivery of thousands of covers per day and programme / project manager experience supporting large complex projects;
- Experience with contract procurement from tender to execution and management, knowledge across all key event operational functions, understanding the interfaces with supporting areas to ensure F&B;program success.
- Designing service levels against predefined services, and planning transition to operations, operational job knowledge, including food safety, compliance with legislation, supply chain management and menu design.
