Your new role: Will be an overarching role responsible for the effective and efficient functioning of the School of Foundation Studies. The purpose of the Head of School role is to foster and maintain an environment in which academics and professional staff work collaboratively to achieve excellence in the areas of learning and teaching, research and innovation, and engagement and impact. The Head of School provides overall academic leadership within a School in support of the University’s mission, values, and strategic goals, and is responsible to the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus CEO for the effective management of staff and resources within the School. The Head of the Centre for Student Success provides support and advisory activities to students in the development of academic, language, and learning skills. The role focuses on developing and delivering programs to Curtin students in both face-to-face and online delivery modes for individuals and groups of students. You will bring to the role: A relevant degree (PhD preferred) in the field of pedagogy and/or areas taught within the Curtin Dubai Foundations Programme. Recent teaching or instructional experience including a demonstrated ability to relate well to, engage with, and engender confidence in students from diverse backgrounds to achieve learning outcomes. A sound understanding of the issues related to and demonstrated skills in the development of learning competencies necessary for students to succeed in university studies. Capacity to deliver continuous improvement in both teaching and research. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent writing and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to embrace cultural change and changes in professional practice. Able to build a strong positive culture within the School; capable of attracting, developing and empowering talented staff, and fostering world class performance by both individuals and teams. Working with the PVC and other Heads of Schools and the relevant stakeholders at the home campus, to establish clear and agreed operational plans, goals and priorities for the School, aligned with those of the Curtin Dubai’s strategic plan; In conjunction with the PVC and Campus CEO, manage staffing functions within the School, including workforce planning, recruitment, workload management, performance review, training and development, reward and recognition, and grievance resolution; Strong technology skills to support a high quality learning experience for students and to operate efficiently as part of a team with the capacity to learn and utilise new online technologies as appropriate. Able to strengthen connections with industry partners, and to drive greater industry embeddedness with respect to educational programs and research. Ensure that the School complies with all legal and statutory obligations, accreditation requirements, and policies relating to the management of people. Develop and maintain strong partnerships with Curtin’s academic staff and other student support staff, and potentially including Faculty English Language Development (FELD) coordinators at Curtin Perth, to ensure that Centre for Student Success programs and services are integrated and scaffolded into all levels of study. In conjunction with the PVC and Campus CEO, pursue opportunities to increase School revenue. Establish and maintain domestic and international connections with relevant government, business, professional bodies, and the wider community. |
