Principal Objective:
The Safety Engineer is responsible for review and implementation of the contractors safety programs. Responsible for providing advice on various safety aspects to contractors personnel, and for encouraging contractors to pursue safe work practices and to maintain safe conditions at their work sites. Investigates and prepares reports on accidents with emphasis on prevention and/or recurrence.
Organizational Relationship:
Reports to the SRCM/Construction/Project Manager and coordinates with other members of the Jazan Projects and construction Staff. Ensures that safety inspection reports are disseminated to the concerned Senior Resident Construction Managers and Resident Construction Managers, and that reports on accidents involving fatalities or serious injuries are compiled and furnished through the Construction Department to the concerned RC/MSC Departments.
Major Activities Performed:
Conducts site inspections with the contractors safety managers/officers on a weekly basis or as required; and reviews the reports with contractors construction managers/officers and RC/MSC managers and/or engineers.
Sees and recognizes job hazards and notifies the concerned contractor safety manager/officer and SRCM/RCM/SRCE/RCEs of unsafe construction practices or conditions at the site.
Investigates all on-site accidents, identifies elements of the accident and unsafe conditions and acts, and determines root cause/reason for the accident and steps to take to prevent recurrence.
Participates in the training of contractors safety staff on safe work practices.
Prepares reports on construction safety violations and distributes the reports to the concerned SRCM/RCM.
Provides initial safety indoctrination to the contractor s construction and safety managers/officers prior to start of the work.
Assists contractors in preparing their safety programs/plans and Employee Safety Handbook.
Participates in the safety audits through the review of contractors records, practices and procedures. Develops safety checklists to be used for periodic inspections, accident investigations, no-notice audits of contractor s Safety Program, and other recurring events.
Experience and Qualifications:
Bachelor s Degree in Safety, Engineering, Construction Management or related field, with 8 years of experience working on safety field in construction management.
A certificate on safety field (NEBOSH) or internationally recognized safety profession is preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English is essential.
Strong knowledge of computers skills and basic software applications: MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint presentation skills
