Industrial Hygienist
Location:
Saudi Arabia The Industrial Hygienist for the Research Safety Team supports University students, Faculty, and Staff in the management of Industrial Hygiene (IH) risks associated with Lab operations.
Job Purpose:
Industrial Hygienist related support could involve nanomaterials, carcinogens and hearing conservation. Other areas of responsibility will include biological safety such as, infectious agents and Marine research. As the Industrial Hygienist, you will be responsible for managing the culture, risk assessments, and improving Industrial Hygiene Programs at KAUST .
Major Accountabilities:
You will: * Program Manage Industrial Hygiene in specific areas: Nanomaterials, NMR, TEM and SEM laboratories, Chemical Safety and Chemical Hygiene. This includes carcinogen management, cryogenic materials, unique regulated materials and chemical process safety. * Manage respirator protection, hearing conservation, ventilation and other related engineering controls. * Participate in the design review process for Lab designs, and Ventilation systems. * Lead on exposure assessments, experiment reviews and Lab hazard analysis. * Perform risk assessments to anticipate, recognize, and control workplace hazards, including biological materials. * Develop and provide training to students, faculty, and staff for University safety programs. * Collaborate with Principal Investigators, students and Lab assistants to develop a Lab safety culture that utilizes industry leading tools, techniques, and behaviours. * Work closely with students, faculty, and staff regarding corrective actions to resolve issues identified during incidents, assessments and inspections. * Provide input for Laboratory design reviews and Lab safety operations support. * Coordinate occupational health workflows between staff, HSE, and occupational health. * Manage Inspections, Data, and other KPI’s in the KAUST HSE database.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in an area related to Biological Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a Science related field. * Membership in a professional organization (AIHA/ABSA/ACS) preferred. * Certification/Registration in IH (CIH) preferred.
Experience:
You will: * Hold 7+ years of professional experience in Industrial Hygiene, preferably gained in a University or Laboratory Research & Development environment. * Have experience of working with, and implementing global IH standards, codes and regulations.
