*ACCOUNTABILITY/OBJECTIVES

1 The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for increasing the level of skills of the nursing staff by means of development and implementation of unit based education programs:

2 Planning and coordinating an effective orientation and in-service program.

3 Implementation and ongoing facilitation of unit based education programs.

*RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY

1 The CNS is responsible for maintaining current professional knowledge and competencies and contributing to the advancement of the practice of nursing at the unit/system, local, and/or national and international level.

2 Direct Patient Care

3 Serves as a reliable source of information on the latest evidence supporting cost-effective, safe nursing practices.

*RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY - (Cont’n.)

1 Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team using the nursing process to integrate the nursing perspective into a comprehensive plan of care for the patient/family.

2 Identifies and prioritizes nursing care needs for a select population of patients/families.

3 Conducts comprehensive, holistic wellness and illness assessments using established or innovative evidence-based techniques, tools, and methods.

4 Initiates and plans care for individual patients or populations of patients.

5 Designs and evaluates innovative educational programs for staff, patients, families, and groups.

6 Identifies, collects, and analyzes data that serve as a basis for program design and outcome measurement.

7 Establishes methods to evaluate and document nursing interventions.

8 Evaluates the impact of nursing interventions on fiscal and human resources.

9 Nursing/Nursing Practice

10 Collaborates with others to resolve issues related to patient care, communication, policies, and resources.

11 Creates and revises nursing policies, protocols and procedures using evidence-based information to achieve outcomes for indicators that are nurse-sensitive.

12 Identifies facilitators and addresses barriers that affect patient outcomes.

13 Leads clinical practice and quality improvement initiatives for a unit or a program.

14 Collaborates with nurses to develop practice environments that support shared decision-making.

*EDUCATION/LICENSURE

1 Registered Nurse with Current License (B.S.N.) x
2 Relevant Post Registration Clinical Qualification e.g. Post Graduate Diploma/Certification x
3 Valid Registration in Saudi Council x
4 Master’s Degree in Nursing with a clinical focus x
5 Evidence of Current Continuing Education x

* PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

1 Minimum of 5 years of current relevant clinical hospital experience. x
2 Leadership experience with evidence of supervisory capabilities x
3 Communication - Written & Verbal x
4 Problem Solving/Critical Thinking x
5 Diplomatic Skills x
6 Organizational Skills x
7 Ability to Motivate and Inspire x
